Diamond star thrills astronomers
A diamond that is almost forever Twinkling in the sky is a diamond star of 10 billion trillion trillion carats, astronomers have discovered. The cosmic diamond is a chunk of crystallised carbon, 4,000 km across, some 50 light-years from the Earth in the constellation Centaurus. It’s the compressed heart of an old star that was once bright like our Sun but has since faded and shrunk. Astronomers have decided to call the star “Lucy” after the Beatles song, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

Some ¥5 million worth of watches and other items were stolen before dawn Thursday from Tobu Department Store Co.’s Ikebukuro store in Tokyo, and the thieves apparently got in via a hole they cut in the outer wall of the seventh floor — a tactic similar to a heist in the Ginza district earlier this year for which a group in Hong Kong was charged, police said.

Friday, Feb. 12, 2010 Man faces H.K. trial for Kobe heist HONG KONG (Kyodo) A Hong Kong man charged with trafficking stolen watches was in Japan when a theft was reported at a department store in Kobe last year, a Hong Kong court was told Thursday. Lee Kui-man, 46, appeared in the Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Court on charges of “handling stolen goods.” He was arrested last month at a border checkpoint on his way to mainland China with nine stolen watches, eight of which bear serial numbers that linked them to a Daimaru department store in Kobe.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A collaboration of law enforcement agencies that included Westerville police has arrested six people in New Jersey in connection with last week’s robbery of a jewelry merchant, 10TV’s Angela An reported.
Detectives from the Westerville Police Division traveled to the East Coast late Sunday night and assisted in making the arrests on Monday.
Although investigators confirmed that those arrested all had California addresses, their identities were not immediately released, An reported.
